Pokemon Gold HardType is a fan-made modification of the original Pokemon Gold, a game released for the Game Boy Color in 2000 by Nintendo. You control a young trainer traveling from town to town, capturing Pokemon and battling gym leaders to earn badges. The main goal remains to defeat the Elite Four and become the champion, but the journey is far more deliberate. Signature changes include extensively reworked Pokemon stats and movepools, making many previously overlooked species viable; smarter, more aggressive AI for all trainers that demands careful type matchups and team composition; and a significantly increased level curve that requires more grinding or precise planning. The pacing is slower, the difficulty is consistently high, and every major fight feels like a puzzle to be solved. It feels like finally playing the strategic game of wits the series' mechanics always suggested.
