Game Overview

Pokemon Link Edition, also known as Pokemon Puzzle Challenge in some regions, was a Game Boy Color title released in 2000. It was developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, arriving during the handheld's peak years alongside many other puzzle and Pokemon spin-offs. The game doesn't try to reinvent the wheel; it just offers a solid, portable block-matching experience wrapped in a familiar theme.

You control a cursor to slide panels of Pokemon icons, trying to create rows or columns of three or more identical creatures to clear them from the board. The main objective is to complete each puzzle screen before the stack of new panels rising from the bottom reaches the top, which ends your game. Signature mechanics include chain reactions, where clearing one set causes others to fall and potentially combo, and a versus mode where sending garbage blocks to your opponent's screen is key. The pacing starts deceptively relaxed but quickly becomes frantic, demanding quick decisions as the panels pile up. It feels like a race against a quiet clock, where one wrong move can suddenly undo your progress.
