Game Overview
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness is one of those DS games that sneaks up on you—you start off taking a personality quiz to see which Pokémon you’ll become (I got a Totodile, which felt weirdly accurate), and suddenly you’re recruiting a team to crawl through randomly generated dungeons. The floors shift every time you enter, so no two runs feel the same, and you’ll actually care when your partner Pokémon gets KO’d because the story makes them feel like a real friend.
It’s got that classic Mystery Dungeon loop: grab berries and traps, fight wild Pokémon who might join you if you’re lucky, and try not to get wrecked by hunger or a surprise monster house. The music’s great, the pixel art holds up, and there’s something weirdly satisfying about organizing your tiny inventory before each dive. Just don’t get too attached to your Reviver Seeds—you’ll need them.
