Ever wanted to wake up as a Pokémon? That’s exactly what happens here—you take a personality quiz (mine always lands me as a Totodile, for better or worse) and suddenly you’re a little pocket monster in a world full of mystery dungeons. The twist? You team up with another Pokémon right away, and together you take on randomly generated floors packed with traps, wild Pokémon, and the occasional rare item tucked in a corner.
The story actually gets pretty deep—way more than I expected from a spin-off. One minute you’re doing odd jobs for the local guild, the next you’re unraveling time-related mysteries with some surprisingly emotional moments. The dungeon crawling can be brutal if you’re unprepared, but recruiting defeated Pokémon to join your team helps balance things out. Just don’t get too attached—if you faint, you lose half your cash and items. Harsh, but it keeps you on your toes.
It’s got that classic DS charm, complete with touchscreen menus and chiptune remixes of the main series’ battle themes. The Korean version (CoolPoint) plays exactly like the original, just with translated text. If you’ve got a soft spot for roguelikes or Pokémon’s weirder side, this one’s a gem.
