Game Overview
Pokémon Pearl on the DS still holds up as one of the best ways to get lost in Sinnoh. You start off in Twinleaf Town, pick your first Pokémon (I always go with Chimchar—fire types are just too useful early on), and before long you're sneaking through tall grass trying to catch Starlys and Bidoofs.
The battles feel snappy, and the underground mining minigame is weirdly addictive once you get into it. Some of the HM requirements can be annoying (looking at you, Defog), but the region has this cozy, nostalgic vibe now—especially with all the little DS-era details like the Pokétch apps and the way your Pokémon follow you in Amity Square.
Just watch out for Cynthia’s Garchomp later. That thing wrecks unprepared teams.
