Game Overview

Pokémon Ruby was my first real dive into Hoenn, and man, that tropical vibe still hits different. You start in Littleroot Town—just some kid with a backpack and big dreams—and within minutes, you're picking between Torchic, Mudkip, or Treecko (I went with Torchic, no regrets). The world feels alive in a way earlier Pokémon games didn’t—puddles splash underfoot, rainstorms roll in, and Team Magma’s lurking around every volcano trying to "expand the land" or whatever.

Double battles changed everything. Suddenly, you’re not just thinking about type matchups but how two Pokémon work together—like pairing a water type with something that can zap flying enemies. And abilities? Game-changer. My Blaziken’s "Blaze" saved me more times than I can count when health got low.

The pixel art’s got this warm, saturated look that makes even the caves feel cozy, and the music—especially that Route 113 theme—sticks in your head for days. Yeah, it’s still about catching monsters and beating gyms, but Ruby made it feel bigger, like you’re unraveling myths about ancient titans while your Zigzagoon hoards random berries. If you’ve never played it, this is the version where Pokémon really started feeling like a proper adventure.
