Game Overview

Pokémon: Weisse Edition is one of those fan-made ROM hacks that actually feels like a proper Pokémon game—just with a fresh coat of paint. You start off in a familiar way (pick your starter, battle some early trainers), but the region’s got its own vibe, and the Pokémon roster mixes classics with some unexpected picks. I went with a Totodile first, which, honestly, carried me through the first couple gyms before I realized half my team was underleveled.

The gym leaders don’t mess around—some of their strategies had me scrambling to adjust my lineup. And yeah, there are a few rough edges (the translation’s a little wonky in spots), but if you’ve ever wanted a slightly tougher, reimagined Pokémon adventure on the DS, this one’s worth digging up. Just don’t expect the Elite Four to go easy on you.
