Pokemon Z is a fan made hack of the original Pokemon Red, released for the Game Boy. It was developed by an independent creator, and it reworks the familiar Kanto region into a much more challenging and unfamiliar experience.
You control a Pokemon trainer on a quest to collect eight gym badges and challenge the Elite Four. The core gameplay involves exploring tall grass and caves to find and battle both wild and trainer-owned Pokemon, but the roster is completely changed with many new creatures. The game is known for its significantly increased difficulty, requiring careful planning for major trainer battles, and it features new areas and dungeons to explore that were not in the original game. It feels like rediscovering a childhood favorite, only to find it has grown up and become far more demanding.
