You control Popeye, moving through single-screen stages to collect hearts, musical notes, and other items that Olive Oyl drops from above. The main goal is to gather everything before time runs out, all while avoiding Bluto, who patrols the level, and other obstacles like flying birds or bouncing bottles. Some levels let you punch cans to temporarily stun Bluto, giving you a brief opening to grab items safely. The game moves quickly, and the difficulty ramps up steadily as you progress. It feels like a tense, sometimes frantic race against the clock where every second counts.
