Popeye on the NES came out in 1983, published by Nintendo. You control Popeye, moving him left and right across a single screen to collect hearts that Olive Oyl drops from above. The main goal is to grab all the hearts before Bluto, who is also chasing them, can snatch them away. Your primary tools are punching Blutus after eating a can of spinach, which temporarily lets you knock him out, and avoiding the flying objects and sea hag that try to stop you. The game is fast and surprisingly difficult, with the characters and hazards moving in tight, unpredictable patterns. It feels like a frantic race against a clock and a bully.
