You control Popeye, moving screen by screen to catch hearts, musical notes, and other items that Olive Oyl drops from above. The main goal is to collect all these items before Bluto shows up to chase you; if he touches you, you lose a life. You can temporarily stun him by punching punch cans that appear, which gives you a brief window to move freely or collect objects. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty ramps up steadily as you progress through the levels. It feels like a tense game of cat and mouse where timing your punches and watching Olive's throws is key to survival.
