Portal was released in 2007 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Valve Corporation. It arrived at a time when puzzle games were often straightforward, but Portal introduced a concept that felt genuinely new. Playing it on DOS, even years later, gives you a sense of how clever design could stand out without relying on advanced graphics or complex controls.

You control a silent test subject navigating sterile laboratory rooms. Your main tool is the portal gun, which lets you create two connected doorways on flat surfaces. You use these to bypass obstacles, redirect energy balls, and fling yourself across gaps. The goal is simply to reach the exit in each test chamber, but the puzzles demand spatial thinking and timing. GLaDOS, an AI overseer, provides dry, often sinister commentary as you progress. The difficulty builds steadily; early rooms teach the basics, while later ones combine mechanics in unexpected ways. It feels satisfying to finally see a solution click into place after moments of trial and error.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
