Portal Runner is this weird little Game Boy Color gem where you play as Vikki, a reporter who thinks she's chasing a scoop but ends up getting tricked by her spy rival Brigitte Bleu. Next thing you know, she's stranded in some bizarre dimension full of creatures that definitely weren’t in her journalism training.

You’ll team up with Leo, a lion who’s somehow less intimidating than the floating eyeballs trying to knock you off platforms. The whole thing plays like a mix of action and light puzzle-solving—jumping between portals, figuring out which ones won’t dump you into lava, and occasionally shooting arrows at things that look at you funny. The pixel art has this late-era GBC charm, all bright colors and chunky sprites.

It’s not the deepest game, but there’s something oddly satisfying about bouncing between worlds with your accidental lion sidekick. Just don’t expect the portals to make much sense.
