Game Overview

Power Athlete is one of those SNES games that makes you wonder how it slipped under the radar. It’s like someone took a standard track-and-field game, cranked the absurdity dial to 11, and threw in special moves straight out of a fighting game. You’ll be sprinting down lanes one second, then suddenly activating a turbo boost that sends your character flying past the finish line in a blur of neon trails.

The characters are pure ‘90s anime energy—muscle-bound sprinters, cyborg shot-putters, and at least one guy who looks like he belongs in a Fist of the North Star spin-off. The long jump turns into a mid-air power struggle if you time your button presses right, and the hurdles? Let’s just say you can clothesline your opponent if you’re feeling mean.

It’s the multiplayer where things get properly unhinged. Two-player mode turns every event into a chaotic duel, especially when power-ups start flying. The soundtrack slaps, the pixel art pops, and yeah, the physics are ridiculous in the best way possible. If you’ve got a friend and a competitive streak, this one’s a riot.
