Game Overview

Power Drift came out on the Amiga in 1988, developed by Sega and published by Activision. It was one of those racing games that tried to push the hardware with its pseudo-3D, isometric tracks, standing out in a sea of simpler top-down or 2D racers at the time.

You control a race car on twisting, hilly tracks, aiming to finish each course in the top three to advance. The signature mechanics are the exaggerated, arcade-style drifting around every sharp bend and managing the constant elevation changes that make the track dip and rise. The pacing is relentlessly fast, and the difficulty comes from memorizing the ideal racing line through each screen; one mistake can send you tumbling off the course. It feels like wrestling with the steering to keep the car from spinning out while the scenery whips past.
