I picked up Power Rangers: Ninja Storm for the Game Boy Advance back in 2003, a time when licensed games were everywhere and you never quite knew what you were getting. This one was developed by Natsume and published by THQ, and it landed right in the middle of the GBA's lifespan, surrounded by a mix of ambitious originals and quick tie-ins. It was based on the Ninja Storm TV season, so if you were into the show, it was hard to resist giving it a shot.
You control one of three Ninja Storm Rangers, each with their own fighting style and special moves, as you battle through side-scrolling stages filled with enemy foot soldiers and occasional bosses. The main goal is straightforward: fight from left to right, clearing screens of enemies while occasionally platforming or avoiding obstacles. Signature mechanics include switching between Rangers on the fly during combat, which lets you adapt to different enemy types or recover if one fighter is low on health, and building up a special meter to unleash powerful super attacks. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty feels fair, though some later levels can get hectic with enemy spam. It feels like a solid, no-frills beat 'em up that captures the energy of the show without overcomplicating things.
