Game Overview

I picked up Power Rangers S.P.D. for the Game Boy Advance back in 2005, a time when licensed games were a real mixed bag. THQ published it, and it was one of those titles you'd grab if you were a fan of the show, hoping it captured some of that team-based action. It fit right in with other side-scrolling beat 'em ups on the system, offering a straightforward, mission-based structure that didn't try to reinvent the wheel.

You control the S.P.D. Rangers, switching between them on the fly to use their specific weapons and special attacks against waves of enemy Troobians. The main goal is to clear each screen of foes, occasionally dealing with minor platforming or activating switches to progress. Two mechanics stand out: the ability to tag in any Ranger during combat to exploit enemy weaknesses, and the sudden shift to first-person Delta Runner segments where you dodge obstacles at high speed. The pacing is brisk, though some enemy patterns can feel cheap, leading to a few frustrating deaths. It feels like a solid, if unspectacular, adaptation that gets the job done.
