Power Strike came out for the Sega Master System in 1988, developed by Compile. It was one of the more polished shoot 'em ups on the system at the time, offering a solid alternative to the more common platformers and action games.
You pilot a small ship through vertically scrolling stages, shooting down waves of enemy crafts and dodging their patterned attacks. The main goal is to survive through each stage and defeat the boss waiting at the end. Key mechanics include collecting floating power-up items that upgrade your main weapon through several distinct forms, and managing a limited stock of smart bombs for clearing the screen in emergencies. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is steep, especially in later stages where enemy density becomes overwhelming. It feels tense and demanding, requiring sharp reflexes and careful positioning to succeed.
