Game Overview

Powerslave (or Exhumed if you're in Europe) is this weird, kinda janky but totally fascinating '90s FPS that throws you into an Egyptian nightmare. You're some special ops guy whose helicopter gets shot down near Karnak, and suddenly you're fighting mummies, Anubis warriors, and these creepy floating skull things that turn you into a mummy if they hit you. The atmosphere is thick – torch-lit corridors, hieroglyph-covered walls, and this constant feeling that something's watching you from the shadows.

What makes it stand out is how you slowly become more powerful. You start off with just a knife and pistol, but as you explore, you find artifacts that let you do wild stuff – breathe underwater, walk on lava, even levitate. The levels loop back on themselves in this cool Metroidvania way where you'll suddenly realize "Oh, THAT'S what that weird ledge was for!" once you get the double jump.

Funny thing – the PC version (running on Duke Nukem 3D's Build engine) plays totally different from the console ones. No mana system here, just straight shooting with weapons that each have their own ammo type. Your guy actually yells "Son of a bitch!" when hit, which feels oddly satisfying. It's more linear than the console versions, but there's still plenty of secrets to uncover if you poke around.

It's got that classic '90s FPS roughness – some textures are ugly, the jumping can be awkward, but there's real charm in how it blends Egyptian mythology with sci-fi weaponry. That moment when you first get the staff that turns enemies to stone never gets old.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
