Game Overview

Prime (Prototype) on SNES is one of those weird, unfinished relics that makes you wonder what could’ve been. It’s got this weirdly satisfying mix of run-and-gun chaos and exploratory backtracking—like if someone smashed Contra into a Metroidvania halfway through development and just rolled with it.

The controls are surprisingly tight for a prototype, though you’ll definitely hit some janky moments where the game clearly needed more polish. Sprite work’s gorgeous though—all that crunchy 16-bit detail with explosions that fill the screen. Found myself replaying the first few levels just to see how far I could sequence-break before hitting an invisible wall or soft-lock (happens more than you’d think).

Honestly, half the fun is poking at its rough edges like an archaeological dig. You can tell the devs were cooking something special before it got shelved. Worth a download if you’ve ever yelled "THEY DON’T MAKE ‘EM LIKE THIS ANYMORE" at your CRT.
