Game Overview

Professor Layton and the Last Specter came out on the Nintendo DS in 2011, developed by Level-5. It was part of that late DS era where developers really knew how to use both screens and the stylus for thoughtful, deliberate games. This one sends the gentlemanly Professor Layton and his new apprentice, Luke, to the perpetually misty town of Misthallery to investigate a destructive specter.

You control Layton, tapping the screen to explore environments and talk to a cast of quirky characters, all while solving over 150 standalone logic puzzles. The main goal is to uncover the truth behind the specter's attacks by gathering clues and fitting story pieces together. The pacing is slow and methodical; you're meant to stop and think, often retracing your steps to find a puzzle you missed or an item you need. It feels like being a real detective, where progress is measured in small eureka moments rather than levels beaten.
