Game Overview

Professor Layton and the Spectre's Call, known as Professor Layton et l'Appel du Spectre in French, came out for the Nintendo DS in 2011. It was developed by Level-5, a studio known for its puzzle and adventure games on the platform. This was one of the later Layton titles on the DS, arriving when the handheld was still widely used, though the 3DS had already begun to take over.

You play as Professor Layton's young apprentice, exploring a rural English village by tapping the screen to move between locations and talk to its quirky residents. Your main goal is to uncover the truth behind a local ghost story, which you do by solving a huge variety of logic puzzles, math problems, and spatial challenges. The game is paced deliberately, with new puzzles appearing constantly through dialogue and exploration; some are straightforward, while others require real patience. It feels like being wrapped up in a charming, interactive storybook where every conversation could lead to another brain teaser.
