Game Overview

Psycho Fox is one of those weird, charming platformers from the Sega Master System era that somehow sticks with you. You start as a fox (though you can switch to a hippo, leopard, or monkey—each with their own quirks) punching and jumping on enemies until they vanish—unless you don’t finish them off, in which case they pop back up angrier than before. The levels are packed with hazards like spikes, fireballs, and escalators (because why not?), and there’s always some hidden spring or secret area if you poke around.

Breaking eggs is a gamble—sometimes you get invincibility or a helpful bird companion, other times an enemy bursts out. That bird is a mixed blessing: it can take hits for you, but it also gets in the way. And those white bags? Useless until you hit the bonus stage, where they suddenly matter. The bosses get repetitive (a few are just recycled), but the Brazilian version, Sapo Xulé, swaps the cast for local characters, including a stinky toad—which honestly feels like the kind of oddball twist this game deserves.

It’s janky, unpredictable, and occasionally frustrating, but there’s something oddly satisfying about punching your way through its weird little worlds.
