Game Overview

Puzzle Bobble DS came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed and published by Taito. It was one of those early puzzle games that felt perfectly at home on the handheld, using the touch screen in a way that felt intuitive rather than forced. During that era, the DS library was filling up with inventive titles, and this was a solid, straightforward entry that didn't try to reinvent the wheel.

You control a small cannon at the bottom of the screen, aiming and firing colored bubbles upward to match groups of three or more of the same color, causing them to pop. The main goal is to clear each screen of all bubbles before they descend and trap you. Key mechanics include banking shots off the side walls to reach tricky angles and using special bubbles that act as power-ups, like the lightning bubble that clears an entire horizontal row or the water bubble that slows everything down. The pacing starts deceptively relaxed but quickly demands faster decisions and precise aiming as the ceiling drops lower. It feels satisfying to set off a big chain reaction and watch the whole structure collapse just in time.
