Game Overview

R-Type on Game Boy is one of those "how did they fit this much game into a tiny cartridge?" moments. It's the same brutal side-scrolling shooter from the arcade, just shrunk down—and somehow it still feels huge. You’ve got your little ship, that weird floating orb thing that sticks to you (and honestly saves your life more times than you’d think), and waves of alien nightmares that just keep coming.

The first level tricks you into thinking you’ve got this—then suddenly you’re dodging a screen-filling boss that looks like it escaped from a heavy metal album cover. The power-ups are satisfying when you finally grab the right one, though half the time I panic and pick the wrong weapon. Pro tip: the laser that pierces everything is your best friend.

It’s punishing, but in that classic arcade way where you keep coming back just to see if you can scrape past the next checkpoint. The music’s got that crunchy Game Boy sound too—you’ll be humming it after a few runs.
