Racing Fever on the GBA is that perfect kind of arcade racer where you don’t need to fuss with tuning or pit stops—just slam the gas and go. The first race hits you with this satisfying rush: weaving through traffic, barely scraping past a truck, and nailing a last-second drift to overtake the leader. The cars have this exaggerated sense of speed, like your tiny GBA screen might not be able to keep up.
I’ll admit, the first time I tried an off-road race, I wiped out hard on a tight turn because I forgot arcade physics don’t care about traction. But that’s the fun of it—you learn quick, and soon you’re boosting past rivals with nitro like it’s second nature. The tracks are bright and full of little details (that city level with neon signs flashing by is my favorite), and the controls are so responsive you almost forget you’re using a D-pad.
It’s not trying to be a sim, and that’s why it works. You can pick it up for five minutes or lose an hour chasing faster lap times. If you miss the days when racing games were just about pure, dumb speed, this one’s got your back.
