You wrestle with the Sopwith Camel's twitchy controls while tracer fire whips past—one wrong move and you're spinning into the dirt. That shaky first takeoff never gets easier, but nailing a tight turn behind an Albatros makes it worth the crashes.

Red Baron came out in 1990 as part of Sierra On-Line's MS-DOS Classic Games series, a time when flight sims were gaining depth and historical flavor. It put you right into the cockpit of a World War I biplane, focusing on the aerial combat of that era without the technical overload of some later simulations.
You pilot a variety of period aircraft like the Sopwith Camel and Fokker Dr.I, engaging in dogfights, bombing runs, and reconnaissance missions across dynamic Western Front campaigns. The game blends arcade action with sim elements; you manage engine power, avoid stalling, and lead targets carefully to take down enemy planes. Missions vary from quick skirmishes to lengthy offensive operations, and the difficulty is substantial, especially when outnumbered. It feels tense and rewarding when you finally outmaneuver an opponent and watch them spiral down in flames.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
