Capcom released Red Earth, also known as War-Zard in Japan, for arcades in 1996. It arrived during a time when fighting games dominated arcades, but it carved its own path by blending one-on-one combat with light RPG elements. The game stood out with its fantasy setting and detailed, colorful sprites that pushed the CPS3 hardware.

You control one of four characters, each with unique weapons and magic, battling through a series of monstrous bosses. The main objective is to defeat each screen-by-screen encounter, earning experience to level up your health and special attacks. Signature mechanics include using weapon-based combos, blocking and countering enemy strikes, and collecting power-up items dropped by foes. The pacing is deliberate, with an emphasis on reading opponent patterns rather than frantic button mashing. It feels strategic and weighty, each victory earned through careful timing and adaptation.
