Game Overview
Rescue Mission is one of those old-school light-gun games where you’re basically the overwatch for medics sneaking into enemy territory. You’ve got to pick off soldiers and tanks before they take out your guys—miss too many, and you’ll watch your medics go down in real time, which feels way more brutal than it should for an 8-bit game.
The Master System’s phaser works surprisingly well here, though the hit detection can be a little wonky if you’re too close to the screen. First time I played, I kept shooting too early and wasting shots on empty scenery. Once you get the rhythm though, it’s weirdly tense—those medics move slow, and enemies pop up from everywhere.
It’s not as flashy as some other light-gun games, but there’s something satisfying about nailing a perfect run where nobody gets hit.
