Rescue Mission came out in 1988 for the Sega Master System, developed by Core Design. It was one of those games that felt right at home on the console, a straightforward action title without a lot of frills, just you and a clear, dangerous objective.
You control a soldier pushing a medical cart along tracks through enemy territory, carefully navigating around mines and dodging incoming fire from soldiers and helicopters. The goal is to escort the cart to the end of each stage without letting it get destroyed. The screen scrolls automatically, forcing you to keep moving while timing your jumps over gaps and shooting enemies with your limited ammunition. It's tense and unforgiving; one mistake often means starting the level over. Playing it feels like a constant, careful balancing act between aggression and retreat.
