RoboCop 2 for the NES came out in 1991, published by Ocean Software. It was one of many licensed games from that era, trying to capture the feel of the movie on hardware that was already showing its age. You step into the heavy metal boots of RoboCop, moving through a side scrolling version of a crime ridden Detroit.
You control RoboCop through several stages, shooting criminals with your Auto 9 pistol and occasionally using a screen clearing bomb. The main goal is to stop the spread of the dangerous narcotic Nuke and ultimately confront the monstrous RoboCop 2 prototype. The game uses a lives and continues system, with checkpoints that offer little relief from the constant enemy fire. Progress feels slow and deliberate, partly due to RoboCop's weighty movement, and the difficulty is unrelenting, demanding precise shots and careful positioning. It feels like a grueling, uphill battle against the city itself.
