Game Overview

Roger Clemens MVP Baseball is one of those SNES sports games that feels surprisingly deep once you get into it. You’ve got your standard exhibition matches, but the real meat is the full season mode—complete with playoffs—where you can track your team’s progress on an in-game calendar. The teams are all fictional (except Clemens’ own Boston Hornets), with names like the San Francisco Quakes or the Detroit Wheels, each with their own roster stats.

Pitching is where it gets fun—you control the speed, spin, and placement of each throw, and there’s even a little window showing baserunners so you can try to pick them off. Batting takes timing, and if you swing at a bad pitch, well… good luck. Once the ball’s in play, the camera shifts dynamically depending on where it’s headed, which keeps fielding tense. Sometimes your fielder looks tiny sprinting into the distance, and you’re just praying you can reel in that fly ball.

It’s not the flashiest baseball game on the SNES, but the mechanics hold up, especially with a friend in two-player mode. Just don’t forget to write down those season passwords unless you want to start over.
