Play Rules of Engagement Online
Command a naval vessel, hunt submarines, manage radar and sonar, plot courses, and launch torpedoes in this tactical naval simulation from 1991.

Rules of Engagement came out in 1991 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Mindscape. It was a time when naval sims were trying to find their footing on home computers, and this one offered a different kind of tension, one built on procedure and patience rather than pure action.
You command a modern naval vessel, a destroyer or frigate, and your job is to hunt enemy submarines across a vast, empty ocean. The game plays out in real time, with you managing radar, sonar, and weapons systems from a detailed control panel. You plot intercept courses, analyze sonar contacts to classify them as friend or foe, and then carefully position your ship to launch torpedoes or depth charges. The pacing is deliberate, often slow, punctuated by moments of frantic activity when a contact suddenly turns hostile. It feels less like a battle and more like a high-stakes puzzle where a single misidentified blip can end everything.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
