Game Overview

Saboteur on the Atari 2600 is one of those weird, frantic little games that somehow sticks with you. You play as Hotot, a peaceful alien who stumbles onto a secret missile base run by these creepy blue guys—turns out they’re using your planet to launch a galaxy-destroying warhead. Not cool.

The first screen throws you right into chaos: construction bots keep stacking missile parts while bird-like Gorfons swoop in to steal them back. Meanwhile, this Master robot patrols the top catwalk, blasting at you and your feathery allies. It’s pure panic trying to dodge shots while keeping the missile from completing.

If you survive that, the next stage gets even wilder. Now you’re bouncing shots off the Master robot to hit shielded warhead parts on a conveyor belt—except there’s a drone bouncing around like a pinball trying to wreck you. Mess up, and you’re stuck in a last-ditch shootout with the warhead itself before it flees into space. Lose or win, the cycle starts again, just faster and meaner.

It’s janky, it’s tough, and the controls take some getting used to—but there’s something weirdly satisfying about the whole mess.
