Game Overview

Sargon 4 was a chess program released in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series by Spinnaker Software Corporation. It arrived at a time when home computer chess was transitioning from purely text-based or monochrome boards to more visually engaging interfaces, offering players a cleaner, more accessible way to engage with the game on their personal computers.

You control the chess pieces in either two-player mode or against the computer opponent, with the goal of achieving checkmate. The game features a simple 3D rendering of the board and pieces, support for reviewing and replaying famous historical games, and adjustable difficulty levels to challenge both newcomers and experienced players. The pacing is deliberate, encouraging thoughtful play rather than rushed moves, and the higher AI settings provide a stern test for even seasoned chess enthusiasts. Playing Sargon 4 feels like having a patient, relentless tutor across the board.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
