Play Sargon V: World Class Chess Online

Sargon V throws you into deep chess battles where every move counts—study classic matches, outsmart the tough AI, or just watch it play itself while you learn. That 3D board still looks surprisingly good for DOS.

Game Overview

If you're into chess and still rocking MS-DOS, Sargon V is the real deal. The AI doesn’t mess around—it’ll crush you if you’re not careful, but there’s a decent tutorial if you’re just starting out. I spent way too long staring at the 3D board option (which, for the time, was pretty slick).

What’s cool is you can dive into famous matches like Karpov vs. Kasparov and try to guess the next move before the game shows you what actually happened. Or, if you’re feeling lazy, just watch the computer play against itself—surprisingly entertaining. The opening book is massive, and you can even print out your games if you want to study them later (very 90s, very practical).

It’s not just about brute-force chess either. There’s annotated commentary from George Koltanowski, which helps when you’re trying to figure out why your brilliant sacrifice was actually a terrible idea. Whether you’re learning or just want a tough opponent, Sargon V holds up way better than most DOS games.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
