Game Overview

Owl Chess is that weird little MS-DOS game where someone decided chess pieces should be owls. Not just any owls—pixelated, slightly derpy ones staring at you from atop rooks and knights. The rules are classic chess, but suddenly sacrificing your pawn feels personal because it’s got this tiny owl on it.

The first time I played, I spent way too long just watching the owls blink. The AI isn’t groundbreaking, but that’s not the point—it’s chess, but with birds, and somehow that makes losing to your own terrible strategy slightly more charming. The whole thing has this cozy, late-night vibe, like you’re playing in some forest clearing while the owls judge your moves.

If you dig retro games with personality or just want to confuse your chess club, this one’s a hoot. Pun absolutely intended.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
