Game Overview

Grandmaster Chess on MS-DOS is one of those no-frills chess games that somehow makes you forget you're playing against a machine. The board looks simple—just clean 8-bit squares and pieces—but don’t let that fool you. The AI puts up a decent fight, especially if you crank up the difficulty. I remember losing my first few matches before realizing it actually punishes lazy openings.

There’s no hand-holding here, no fancy tutorials—just you and the chessboard. The moves feel snappy, and the lack of modern distractions (no ads, no flashy effects) makes it weirdly immersive. If you’ve got a soft spot for retro gaming or just want a stripped-down chess challenge, this one’s a solid choice. Just don’t blame the game when it checkmates you in six moves.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
