Game Overview

Laser Chess came out in 1987 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Krisalis Software. It was a clever little strategy game that felt right at home on the platform, sitting alongside other thoughtful titles that didn't rely on flashy graphics. You got a clean, functional interface and a game that asked you to really think, not just react.

You control a set of mirrored and non-mirrored pieces on a grid, each with a specific function. The main objective is to destroy your opponent's laser emitter by deflecting your own laser beam off your mirrors while protecting your own base. Key mechanics include rotating your pieces to change the angle of reflection and sacrificing certain pieces to block incoming shots. The game moves at a deliberate, turn-based pace, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as the AI anticipates your moves and sets up clever deflections. It feels deeply satisfying when a planned shot caroms across the board and takes out the target you were aiming for.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
