Game Overview

National Lampoon’s Chess Maniac 5 Billion and 1 is what happens when chess gets drunk at a party and starts heckling you. The actual chess part? Surprisingly solid—10 difficulty levels, decent AI, all that. But then there’s "The Maniac," this unseen jerk who trash-talks you in a HAL-9000 voice, flings random animations at the screen, and occasionally just steals your pieces because rules are for losers.

Win a match, and you’re treated to… something. Maybe a random cheesecake slideshow. Maybe a goat on a mountain. It’s like the game’s developers dared each other to make the most unhinged victory screen possible. You can turn off the chaos (2D board, mute the taunts), but where’s the fun in that? The whole point is the absurdity—it’s branded as "sicker, nastier, and sexier" than regular chess, and wow, does it deliver.

Fair warning: the humor hasn’t aged gracefully. There’s a reason it comes with disclaimers for "preteens and televangelists." But if you’re into weird ‘90s PC gaming vibes and don’t mind a chess opponent who cheats and insults you, this cult classic still hits that bizarre sweet spot.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
