Play Sega Chess Online
Move pieces with a chunky cursor, nudge the AI for hints when you're stuck, or flip the board to see things from your buddy's side—chess on the Master System somehow makes even losing feel satisfying.

Sega Chess came out in 1991 for the Sega Master System, developed and published by Sega themselves. It was one of the few dedicated chess titles on the platform, arriving at a time when home consoles were starting to offer more varied, thoughtful experiences alongside the usual action and platforming games.
You control a cursor to move your pieces across a simple, clean board. The main goal is to checkmate the opponent's king, just like standard chess. Two mechanics stand out: you can ask the computer for a hint when you're uncertain, and there's a two-player mode where you can physically flip the board view to match your friend's perspective. The pacing is deliberate, and the AI offers several difficulty levels to suit different experience levels. It feels straightforward and focused, a quiet, no-fuss way to play chess on the console.
