Play Virtual Chess 64 Online

Pawns throw down in ridiculous cartoon brawls when they capture each other—stick to 2D mode unless you want your chess game feeling like a clumsy 3D experiment. The AI stomps you even on easy, so bring your A-game.

Game Overview

Virtual Chess 64 is that weird, kinda charming chess game that somehow ended up on the N64. You can switch between 2D and 3D views, but honestly, the 3D mode feels a little clunky—stick with 2D if you want to actually focus on the game.

The best part? When pawns capture each other, you get these goofy little fight scenes where the pieces turn into cartoon characters and duke it out. It’s completely unnecessary, but weirdly entertaining the first few times.

Just a heads-up: even the "easy" AI is brutal. I lost more games than I’d like to admit before figuring out its patterns. If you’re looking for a casual chess game, maybe grab something else—but if you want a challenge with some Nintendo-era quirks, this is it.
