Play Virtual Chess 64 Online
Move your chess pieces, strategize your moves, and checkmate your opponent in this straightforward chess simulation on the N64.

Virtual Chess 64 came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, developed and published by Titus Interactive. It was one of the few dedicated chess games on the console, arriving at a time when many players were more accustomed to fast paced action titles. The game offered both 2D and 3D board views, but it was clear where its strengths lay.
You control the chess pieces as you would in any standard match, moving them across the board with the goal of checkmating your opponent's king. Two mechanics stand out: the ability to switch between a flat 2D perspective and a rotatable 3D view, and the animated battle sequences that play when one piece captures another. The pacing is deliberate, and the AI provides a stiff challenge even on lower difficulty settings. Playing it feels like a straightforward, no frills chess simulation with just a bit of visual flair.
