Play Virtual Chess 64 (E) Online
Your knights actually snort and paw at the board while you overthink every move—then the AI checkmates you with a smug little pawn shuffle. That N64 charm turns getting outplayed into a spectacle.

Game Overview
Virtual Chess 64 is one of those N64 games that makes chess feel way cooler than it has any right to be. The pieces are all 3D models with these little idle animations—pawns shift their weight, knights flick their heads—which somehow makes losing your queen even more painful.
It’s got a solid tutorial if you’re just starting out, but the real fun is cranking up the AI difficulty and watching it absolutely demolish you in five moves. The board’s a bit chunky by today’s standards, but there’s something charming about how seriously it takes itself. You can almost hear the N64’s fan wheezing during long turns.
Definitely the chess game you’d play if you wanted to flex on your friends with ‘90s polygonal bishops.
