You swing a sword through side-scrolling caves, then suddenly it flips to a clunky 3D tunnel where everything’s coming right at you—like two games in one, both kinda janky but weirdly cool.

Game Overview

So Savage is this old-school MS-DOS hack-and-slash from '88 where you play as some beefy fantasy hero trying to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend—classic setup, right? The weird thing is how it keeps switching up gameplay. One minute you're side-scrolling through caves, chopping up monsters with a sword, then suddenly it throws you into this janky 3D tunnel section where you're dodging obstacles head-on. Feels like two different games stitched together.

The side-scrolling bits hold up okay—simple but satisfying combat where you just wail on skeletons and lizard men. That 3D part though? Brutal. Depth perception’s a nightmare, and the controls get weirdly floaty. Still, there’s something charming about how ambitious it was for the time, even if it doesn’t all work. The pixel art’s got that gritty ‘80s fantasy vibe, all moody blues and blood splatters.

Honestly, it’s more of a curiosity now than anything, but if you’re into retro games with weird experimental edges, you might dig it. Just don’t expect it to go easy on you.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
