Game Overview

Okay, so Savage Reign (or Fu'un Mokushiroku if you're feeling fancy) is one of those Neo Geo fighters that got overshadowed by the big names like Samurai Shodown or King of Fighters, but honestly? It's got this weird charm. You pick from a roster of fighters—some with swords, others with claws, one guy even fights with a boomerang—and just go wild in these urban battlegrounds. The first time I played, I grabbed Sho, the samurai dude, and immediately got wrecked by a dude on rollerblades. Lesson learned: this game doesn’t take itself too seriously.

What makes it stand out is the arena hazards. You can knock opponents into electrified fences or off rooftops, and there’s even a weird power-up system where you grab floating orbs mid-fight. It’s janky in that classic Neo Geo way—animations are stiff, the AI cheats like crazy on higher difficulties, but there’s something satisfying about landing a super move that sends your enemy flying into a dumpster. Also, the soundtrack slaps harder than it has any right to.

If you’re into obscure 90s fighters with chaotic energy, this one’s a blast with a friend. Just don’t expect it to play fair.
