Scapeghost came out in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Level 9 Computing. It was a text adventure with graphics, typical for its time, where you played as a ghost trying to escape a haunted mansion. The game fit right in with other parser-driven adventures of the era, relying on typed commands and static images to tell its story.

You control a hapless ghost who must explore the mansion room by room, interacting with objects and characters to uncover clues. The main goal is to find a way out, but you spend most of your time attempting to scare the living residents, often with comically poor results. Signature mechanics include phasing through walls (which can accidentally trap you), using ghostly abilities like possession or illusion, and solving inventory-based puzzles. The pacing is deliberate, and the parser can be unforgiving if you don't phrase commands just right. It feels like stumbling through a dark comedy where every mistake reveals another layer of absurdity.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
