Game Overview

Shadowgate is one of those NES games that makes you feel like you're actually wandering through a creepy, trap-filled castle—except you'll probably die a lot before you figure anything out. You poke around dusty rooms, pick up weird objects (why is there a skull just lying around?), and try not to get roasted by a dragon or impaled on spikes. The puzzles are tough but satisfying when you finally get them, though good luck getting far without taking notes or remembering obscure details. The music and atmosphere still hold up, all moody and foreboding. Just don’t expect the game to hold your hand.
