Game Overview

Shinri Game 2, The - Magical Trip (Japan) is one of those weird, wonderful SNES games that makes you go, "Wait, what is this?" At first glance, it looks like a colorful, slightly chaotic quiz game—but then you realize it’s throwing everything at you: word puzzles, reflex tests, even bizarre little challenges where you have to guess what some abstract pixel art is supposed to be.

The whole thing has this playful, almost dreamlike vibe, like someone took a Japanese game show from the '90s and filtered it through a Super Nintendo. Some rounds are dead simple (pick the right kanji), others make no sense until you suddenly get it (why is that blob turning into a frog?). The pixel art’s charmingly rough, and the music’s got that cheery, slightly off-kilter SNES sound.

It never left Japan, which isn’t surprising—half the quizzes are language-based, and the humor’s pretty niche. But if you’re into digging up oddball retro games, this one’s a trip in the best way. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
