Game Overview

I first played Silver Star on the Amiga back in 1992, a time when side-scrollers were everywhere but few had much staying power. It was developed by a team at Rainbow Arts, and while it didn't break new ground, it had a certain charm that kept me coming back. The graphics were colorful, the music catchy, and it felt right at home among other platformers of the era.

You control a lone hero navigating screen by screen, jumping over pits, avoiding traps, and fighting off enemies with a sword or occasionally a bow. The main goal is straightforward: progress through each level, defeat the boss, and move on. Two mechanics stand out: collecting energy orbs to upgrade your abilities and using a password system to continue your progress later. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages, especially during boss fights. It feels satisfying to master the timing of your attacks and jumps, making each small victory worthwhile.
