Play SimEarth - The Living Planet Online

Tweak the atmosphere, nudge the temperature, and drop life into the oceans—then watch your planet either thrive or collapse into chaos while continents drift apart. No matter how precise you get, things tend to spiral into mass extinctions, so you’ll be restarting a lot.

Game Overview

SimEarth: The Living Planet came out in 1990 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup, developed by Maxis. It was one of those ambitious, cerebral titles from the era that asked you to think on a geological timescale, not just beat a level. You weren't saving a princess; you were building a world from its molten core to the dawn of intelligent life.

You control the fundamental forces of a planet, adjusting sliders for things like solar luminosity, atmospheric gases, and tectonic activity. The main objective is to guide your world through its entire evolutionary history, from simple prokaryotes to a spacefaring civilization. Signature mechanics include terraforming the environment tile by tile, managing the gene pools of evolving species, and dealing with random catastrophic events like asteroid impacts. The pacing is slow, almost meditative, and the difficulty is unforgiving; a single misstep can trigger a runaway greenhouse effect or a global ice age that wipes out everything. It feels less like playing a game and more like conducting a fragile, billion-year experiment where you are never fully in control.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
